Water!!!

So we have this kiddy pool in our backyard, and with all the rain we've been getting, it seems like there is always water in it. And with my two half-duck kids it seems they are already wet by the time I remember to check the pool.
So today, after Maya was already wet and dirty I figured that since they were calling for hot weather (finally!!!) I would fill it up with clean water so that in the afternoon the girls could play. Yeah right!
No sooner was there 1/2 inch of water in the pool, Maya was in there, shoes, shorts, shirt, the whole deal. That water comes straight from the well and it is cold. Didn't seem to bother the girls. (Oh and by the way, I should mention that all this is before 9 a.m.)

So much fun!!

Drinking straight from the hose! What can I say? Once she was wet, I might as well let her play.

When Katie wanted to be part of the action, at least she requested that I put on her swimming suit. And of course once katie had hers on Maya wanted hers too.

Double slide! Good thing too as they are still learning this whole "take turns" thing. They are getting much better, but if I'm not right there to referee having two slides makes things easier.
So after at least an hour of play they both had a shower before lunch and then we spent the afternoon running errands. I guess it was good they got into the water action right away or they would have missed out in the afternoon.

Tomorrow is supposed to be hot and humid again. Maybe I'll just dress them in their swimming suit before I even let them outside.

How do you cope with the heat??

Random Cuteness

These are some pictures taken over the last couple of weeks, but as a typical mommy I thought they were just too cute not to share.
My girls just haning out with - I mean on- each other. They were playing like that quite happily for much longer than I thought they might.

Katie is enjoying Grandpa's birthday cake. When you compare it with Maya's picture later on you can tell just how much she's growing up.

Ready for school? She's been wearing her purse (still a favoriter, Aunt Sarah) as a backpack and telling me that she's all ready for school. I think we might have to get her a bigger bed once she's a big school girl ;)

Maya, also enjoying the birthday cake - her way!!

Being a little mommy with her dollies, but she couldn't resist the temptation of a soother within reach. She just gets hers in her crib and in the car seat, so I guess this would be a "special treat".

Big Scare

Tonight Katie gave me a big scare! I am at the mission by myself this weekend, Jeff has gone on a long overdue and definitely deserved fishing/hunting/treeclimbing weekend at his cousin's. Anyway I had the girls all settled in bed and was reading in the living room to wait until the girls are sleeping before I go outside to close up the rabbits and chicken for the night. So after it's been quiet for a while I want to check and Katie was not in her bed, she wasn't in the room, she wasn't in my room, or the bathroom, or the office. I started calling for her, checked outside (we have a sliding door in our bedroom, though I figured I should have hear her if she went outside). I checked inside again, then outside again, by now I was starting to get really scared. The property is so huge, where would I go to search first. I went back inside and called again when she came running "here I am". She thought it was funny (she had hid under Maya's crib in the dark behind a pile of blankets). Once she realized how scared I was and that it was not at all funny and that it made Mommy cry she started to tear up and said "I'm sorry mommy". I'm sure every parent goes through something like this and the scenarios that come to mind are not pretty. I'm just so glad to have my two beautiful girls safely asleep in their beds. And I think that's were I'm headed very shortly too. Good night to all.

Garden

So, according to the weather forecast we're in for more rain for the next 4 days, plus the ground took until this afternoon to dry enough to till, so today was the day to put in our garden.
Katie and I were gone in the morning grocery shopping, plus picking up some tomatoe and pepper plants. Jeff cleaned out all our critters and then got busy working up the garden.

Then after I got my last load of laundry on the line we got busy planting. Jeff made all the rows/hills/beds and I got to sowing and planting. So this is what we got: Cutting flowers, Sweet Corn, Cucumber, Pumpin, Butternut Squash, Butter Cup Squash, and another Squash I forgot what kind, giant Sunflowers, 2 types potatoes, carrots, 2 types of bush beans, beets, zucchini, red and green peppers and 3 types of tomatoes. I still want to add some summer savory to the beans and basil with the tomatoes. I am beat and quite mosquito bitten!! But I'm still looking forward to a girls night out.

So, what did the girls do all this time. They played nicely!!! in the cold cold water in our kiddy pool for over an hour. Then Maya got too cold and we took her inside. Katie was also done in the water, but shivering she wanted to help Mommy plant the garden now. I asked her many different times if she was cold and wanted to go inside, but NO, she wanted to help mommy and plant "another one" whatever it was. She was a great help and sowed all the squash, pumpkin and most of the sunflowers. I think we will all sleep well tonight!!

Rabbits

We've had our rabbits for a little while now, but I haven't gotten around to blog about it. (I also always forgot to bring the camera when we went to feed the chickens and a post about rabbits is so much cuter when there are pics)
Maya feeding old celery sticks to Ruby

Our "boy rabbit" Casanova. We are planning on having 2 or 3 does and this young gentleman to keep them "company" ;). The plan is to build a shed/rabbit hutch in the summer, but for now the "ladies" are all in the same part of an old doghouse.

Katie feeding the very originally named "Blackie"

Here's the ladies: Brownie, Ruby, Blackie and Cookie. Can you tell that a 3 year old helped name them?

Aren't they cute? It's fun to have a bit of a "farm" for our little girls. We've added 4 more chickens so we are up to 10 chicken and 5 rabbits. Katie loves to hunt worms for the hens, and we enjoy the eggs for ourselves and also get to sell them to some of our friends. The chores help us to get a bit of a morning routine going, and hopefully at sometime our lives might get a bit more scheduled/routined. Anyway, maybe more on that some other day, it's 6 p.m. my kids are hungry and I better get cooking.

Cheers to all.

Finally

Even though today is overcast and rain in the forecast for the next 3 days, Spring has finally come to Moffat!! I spent the last few days outside working on gardens, hanging laundry and going to the parks. Today I switched the girls closets to spring/summer wear.
The girls are modeling their first summer outfits.

Growing fast, but still very cute;) but then of course I am biased.

Listening to kids music and having a blast dancing.

Pictures just don't quite capture their "dance" but my batery on the camera was dying and it barely had enough juice to take pics, let alone a video.

Next time I'll have to try again. Their moves are quite hilarious.

On a side note, as you may have noticed the amount of bloggins is decreasing. With the beautiful weather, I just don't spend a lot of time indoors at the computer. I'll try to keep up on the blogging, but we'll see. Maybe when it gets really hot and we have to spend the peak hours indoors I'll post more regularly again.

Blessings to all.

Going to the Dentist

On Tuesday we had our family dentist appointment. Jeff had to do some extensive restorative work done (and is not done with it yet) while I just had my regular check up and cleaning. At hte end of my turn, Katie got to ride in the chair as well.
She did so awesome waiting while I had my turn, and then she was very cooperative with the dental hygenist.

She was right into Katie's mouth and Katie held open wide and sat still

Almost done. She will have to get her deep grooves in her molers looked after, so we'll see how well she does for that. But this first experience was great, so I don't anticipate huge problems.
And then of course she gets her goodie bag. A toy fish, toothbrush and paste, and some floss. She still carries the bag and some of floss around with her as her special "dentist toys" treasure.

All done her first successful dental visit.
